Manchester was buzzing as RADAR Festival 2024 opened up the iconic three-day indoor music event to the city. The festival showcased a mix of new and forward-thinking sounds - drawing music fans from all over the world. RADAR 2024 kicked off strong - with iconic headliners The Midnight and Caskets. Our photographer Christina Sylvester shot all the highlights from RADAR festival's first day.
The Midnight
Headlining the main stage, The Midnight - a synthwave rock group from LA California - were without a doubt a truly anticipated act for the day and gave a thrilling show. They kicked things off with fan favourites such as Days of Thunder and Vampires, getting the festival crowd fired up with their retro-inspired tracks.
Caskets
Caskets, a well-known alt-metal band from Leeds, took the spotlight at RADAR Festival 2024. They wrapped up the event on the Sneak Energy Stage - leaving fans wanting more of Matt Flood's incredible vocals. The group has made such a name for itself, that fans at the festival couldn't help but join in belting out lyrics from tracks like Drowned in Emotion and Signs.
Giant Walker
Hailing from Newcastle and Guildford, UK, Giant Walker is a heavy progressive quartet that's making waves in the scene. Their dynamic sound and intricate compositions, which combine powerful riffs with progressive melodies, offer a unique twist on the genre.
The Intersphere
German-based band The Intersphere kicked off the Main Stage at RADAR Festival with an electric set. Renowned for their complex melodies and lively stage presence, they started the day off right their new hit "Ghost Train" ft Plini. Their mesmerising performance highlighted their musical talent and definitely started the day off strong.
Cestra
Kat Marsh's solo endeavor, Cestra, took the second stage by storm at RADAR Festival, delivering a spellbinding performance that combined her hauntingly beautiful vocals and the striking, atmospheric lighting for an unforgettable experience. Having previously lent her voice to TesseracT on the second day with their cohort Choir Noire, Cestra's ethereal sound resonated deeply among punters.
Unpeople
Unpeople, riding high from their standout performance at 2000 Trees in July 2024, made a highly awaited appearance at RADAR Festival. Their growing reputation was evident, as they had previously packed a tent with their dynamic and engaging show. At RADAR, they once again captivated the crowd, reinforcing their position as an essential act of the year.
Ichika Nito
Japanese bedroom guitarist Ichika Nito, renowned for his intricate and mesmerizing guitar work, has amassed over 2 million subscribers on YouTube. At RADAR, he captivated a huge crowed with his unique blend of technical proficiency and simple, yet emotive performance.
Vower
Vower, a progressive rock band from Brighton, left a lasting impact at RADAR Festival 2024 with their performance on the second stage (and their fourth live show ever). Despite their limited stage experience, Vower's complex music and captivating performance got the crowd riled up. They're definitely ones to watch in the scene.
Thrown
In 2021, the German group Thrown was created and they put on an intense show at RADAR Festival 2024. Renowned for their darker, more intense approach to contemporary hardcore and metalcore, Thrown really shifted the energy on Friday, getting the crowd riled up with their powerful energy.
It's safe to say that Friday at RADAR Festival 2024 was a strong start to the weekend. Keep an eye out for Days two and three to follow!
